What is STEAM Works Pre-K Enrichment?
A:
STEAM WORKS STUDIO is where you send your Pre-K budding scientist or engineer (4-6 Year old) to get an early advantage in hands-on Science, Technology, Art and Maths! This is not the regular run-of-the-mill Pre-K enrichment program. Your child WILL be challenged with regular interesting homework towards getting beyond ready for Kindergarten with Math & Language Arts, reading and writing skills.
Every single day your child learns while experiencing a new hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art or Math activity such as Animating characters with SCRATCH Junior programming on computers or building fun clay projects with Squishy circuits that light up or planting a Terranium that they observe as the plants grow.

Who is a STEAM Works Pre-K Student?
A:
A STEAM WORKS STUDIO Pre-K student is a bright and curious child who is already "Potty trained", 4+ years or older and who is ready to be challenged with fun Science, Math and Art based hands-on activities. They also are expected to handle Homework to develop motor skills required for Writing alphabets, numbers and other core skills for Kindergarten.

What time can I drop my child off?
A:
Our center is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. For morning Pre-K Enrichment program session, the session starts at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 12:00 p.m. and the afternoon session is from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Early drops are available for a fee. Please discuss with the counselor while registering.

Are snacks provided?
A:
We provide snacks daily for your child and the cost is included in your tuition. The snacks are simple finger foods and fruit juices. No peanuts are allowed. No outside snacks are allowed.

Is there communication about what my child did during the day?
A:
Each child goes home with a daily sheet which records daily activities. All teachers fill out a “What we did today” sheet that summarizes the activities of the day.

What do I do if my child becomes sick at the STEAM WORKS STUDIO center?
A:
If a child becomes ill at school, we will make him or her as comfortable as we can until the parent is contacted and is able to pick up the child.

Are there restrictions on who may pick up my child?
A:
We ask that parents list individuals other than themselves who are able to pick up their child on our registration form. If you know in advance that you are unable to pick up your child and will be sending someone else, we ask that you send a written notification of who will pick up your child and on what day. If an emergency occurs, please call the center to let them know who will be picking up your child. In either case, a picture I.D. will be required for the person to pick up your child.

What is your sickness policy?
A:
Our sick policy is written with the best interest of all children – sick and healthy. We ask that children with a fever of 101 degrees or higher stay at home until the fever is gone for 24 hours. We also request that children stay home if they have vomited or had more than 4 diarrhea stools. If these illnesses occur during the school day, we will call the parent to pick up the child.

Are teachers trained in first aid and CPR?
A:
All of our teachers have first aid and CPR training which is renewed every two years.

Are background checks completed on staff members?
A:
We do a regular and periodic NJ State approved background check through the state on all employees.

Q:
Is there a safety plan in place in case of an emergency?
A:
Each room has a layout of the building and clearly marked EXIT signs show where you are and how to get out in case of a fire or other emergency. We practice these drills monthly with the children.
